Greyhound Syndication in the Future

By Hamish

The internet has changed a lot of things including the greyhound racing industry and greyhound ownership.

Greyhound syndication has become more professional and is moving with the times. In this post I just wanted to share with you a couple of things that I see happening more and more as we move in to the future. This list is by no means exhaustive but I think that these events will occur as greyhound racing grows and more owners become involved.

Breeding Syndicates- With more and more owners looking to be involved, we are going to need more dogs to be racing. Somebody has to breed these dogs and I feel that many breeding syndicates will pop up to support this need. It is happening already but I believe that this activity can only accelerate.

Online Portals and news sites- There are new sites popping up all the time where people interested in the greyhound industry can get more information, get involved with forums, and chat with like-minded individuals who are passionate about the industry

Being run more professionally by groups other than trainers- As we get more owners and hence more greyhounds racing, greyhound trainers are going to be busier and have less time to service the needs of their owners. I think that more and more we will see greyhound syndicate facilitators pop up who help match those wanting to become greyhound owners with those who have the greyhounds to syndicate. This will be a fee for service proposition and all ownership will then rest in the hands of syndicate members.

The popularity of greyhound racing and greyhound syndication will only grow exponentially. In my opinion these are some of the improvements that we will see happen in the industry over the coming years.

3 Reasons You May Want To Consider Greyhound Syndication

By Hamish

If you have been ummming and ahhhing about whether you should get involved in greyhound ownership through greyhound syndication, then this may be the article that tips you over the edge. Below I will outline 3 reasons as to why I believe that greyhound syndication is a great option for you.

Greyhound Syndication is a cheaper option- Buying a ready to race dog outright can set you back a lot of money- up to $20k or more in some circumstances. Buying a share in a syndicate will set you back only a fraction of this cost depending on how big a share that you want. The cost of the greyhound is shared amongst all owners.

Greyhound Syndication is a safer investment- As your costs are lowered and shared, and you could invest in many greyhound shares, you may find that greyhound syndication is a safer investment of your money. If you spend all of your money on one greyhound and it gets injured, all of your hard earned cash is lost. If you buy shares in a number of syndicates, even if one greyhound gets injured or is just too slow, you can still have a share in a winning greyhound.

Greyhound Syndication can be more fun- Greyhound syndication can also be a lot of fun as you will meet new people and you can share the highs and lows of your greyhounds career with other people that care as much as you do.

There you have it- 3 reasons why you should consider greyhound syndication. If you would like any further information or to get involved, you should shoot me through an email and I will make sure the relevant person gets back in touch with you.

Greyhound Syndication- 3 reasons to start with a breeding syndicate

By Hamish

The majority of those that promote a greyhound syndicate are promoting shares in a greyhound pup or a ready to race greyhound. There is nothing wrong with this but it doesn’t mean that these types of shares are your only option.

As I have mentioned before, greyhound breeding syndicates are a great option. The point of this article is to again share with you why this option is suitable for you.

If you are a beginner in the greyhound industry, you do not have to follow the same route as everybody else. You could benefit from becoming involved in a greyhound breeding syndicate.

This article outlines three reasons why this is so.

More chance to profit- If you buy a share in a pup or a racing syndicate, you only have a share in one dog. What if your pup or dog is not a winner? You have thrown your money away and you have to spend money buying another share. With a breeding syndicate, after you have bought your broodbitch and bred greyhound pups, you have more chances of making a profit. You can sell some of the pups that are born and race those that are left.

More choice of greyhound pup- If you are the breeding syndicate owners you can choose which pups to sell and which pups to keep for yourself. This is great because you do not get stuck with only one pup to choose from.

More choice of breeding- If you are buying a standard syndicate share, your options are generally limited. If you are buying a share in a greyhound breeding syndicate, you have the option of choosing who will breed with your broodbitch.

Greyhound Syndication is a great way for any newbie to get started in the greyhound racing industry. If you want to get started, you should look at breeding syndicates as your best greyhound option.

Why I Will Be Looking at More and More Breeding Syndicates

By Hamish

For the last 3 and a bit years, I have been writing about greyhound syndication and greyhound syndicates, promoting the syndicates of trainers that I know and trust. I started on other websites and web directories before starting this site last year.

Up until recently I have mostly been promoting shares in greyhounds for racing purposes as this is the way that most people get started. Going forward I am looking further at promoting greyhound breeding syndicates. Below I will outline why.

I want to ensure that we reinvest in the industry- The greyhound industry relies on its participants reinvesting in the industry. Ensuring the continued breeding of well credentialed greyhound pups means that we will keep our industry growing and strong.

You can reinvest profits from selling greyhound pups in racing greyhounds- Whilst greyhound breeding syndicates may some upfront investment to get your greyhound pregnant and then have the pups, you can mitigate a lot of your ongoing costs through selling some of the pups. This can cover your costs if you want to keep some of the pups for racing.

It is something a little different- Most people get involved in greyhound racing though buying shares in racing syndicates, but greyhound breeding syndicates are becoming more and more popular.

If you are interested in getting involved in a greyhound breeding syndicate, I will have many started over the coming months. Contact me for further information.

Greyhound Syndication- Are breeding syndicates the way to go?

By Hamish

Greyhound syndication is a great way to get started in the greyhound racing game. You can limit your investment and still enjoy all the fun and excitement of being an owner. One of the increasingly popular forms of greyhound syndicates going around these days is the breeding syndicate- why buy one racing dog when you can get a litter of pups and potential champions?

Basically with a breeding syndicate, you first need to find your brood bitch. Then you need to find a sire. There are costs here. Then you also have the whelping costs. These are the main costs with your syndicate.

Once the pups are born you have a few options. You can sell off some or all of the pups, or you can race them all. Usually you go with selling a few pups to cover your costs and then you race the ones that you keep for fun.

Obviously there are some risks involved- i.e. some of the pups die or your brood bitch doesn’t get pregnant, but if you choose the right greyhounds and go to the right breeder, you limit your risks as much as possible.

Over the coming months, we will be helping to organise some breeding syndicates. Let me know if you are interested and I will add you to the mailing list.

Greyhound Syndication- Tips for those starting out.

By Hamish

The Greyhound Syndication industry in Australia has taken a bit of a hit recently. One of Australia’s fastest growing and biggest syndicators may now be finding himself in a bit of trouble. Before you commit to any purchase, check out this post.

http://greyhoundsales.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=20691&page=1

If half of what is being said about Brad is true, the poor boy may be about to find himself facing a whole lot of trouble. I do feel sorry for anyone who may not have received the fun experience that they should from greyhound ownership. It is a great industry that you should most definitely find fun and exciting.

Here are some important things that you need to consider if you are keen in getting started out in the greyhound racing industry through syndication:

Do your research- You need to do your research before you spend your money. You should make sure that you do a Google Search ( so you can find if people are saying bad think about the syndicator you are thinking about) and you should talk to other syndicate owners who use the trainer you are looking at. You also need to research the greyhound sire and breeding to ensure that you are finding yourself a well bred greyhound.

Don’t get involved for money- Whilst there are things you can do to improve your chances of profitability, you need to remember that it is not just about money. You may not cover your costs from prize money. It is about keeping the industry going and the excitement of seeing your greyhound come across the line first. It is exciting to see your greyhound win no matter where it is. Also, if you place your greyhound correctly, you can hit up the bookies and make your money there.

Greyhound syndication is fun and exciting. If you take in to consideration the two things I’ve mentioned above your time as an owner should be fun and exciting.

Team Bundy Greyhound Syndicates?

By Hamish

There seems to be a lot of rumour and innuendo going around about Team Bundy Greyhound Syndicates at the moment. There seem to be plenty of greyhound owners out there who are unhappy and may not know exactly what is going on and what their rights are.

If you were considering purchasing a share in a Team Bundy Syndicate, I would advise you to be careful. There is talk about them disappearing and not responding to emails or calls.

If you are buying shares in a syndicate, remember it should first be about fun and not necessarily about profit. Having said that, finding a syndicate that is close to you is advantageous because then you can actually go and watch your greyhound run.

Do your research and speak to a lot of people before you make your purchase. I just hope that the issues that we have seen here do not turn too many people away from Greyhound Racing as it would be sad to see so many first timers lost to the industry.

Boxing Day Greyhound Racing Wrap.

By Hamish

Boxing Day 2009 was a great day’s great day’s racing with big racing happening on the country circuit in Sale and many semi–finals of the Silver Chief happening at The Meadows.

Mantra Lad won the Sale Cup and Zenith, Kilrush, Rev Limiter and Sheoak Ian all won their heats of the Silver Chief at The Meadows. Sheoak Ian is a special story. As the winner of the Great Chase, for every race that Sheoak Ian wins, Greyhound Racing Victoria will donate the equivalent of 10% of its prize money to Scope Victoria. If he can get through the final of the Silver Chief next week, this could be a substantial chunk of change.

Also, imagine how exciting these results are for the owners of these dogs. Greyhound owners are every day people like you and me. They start out wanting to experience the excitement of ownership, stay involved, and get lucky when they find a dog that can take them to that next level.

This is not beyond you. Greyhound ownership is extremely affordable, especially when you consider the option of greyhound syndication. If you buy a share in a greyhound syndicate, then you experience the full benefit of greyhound ownership for a fraction of the cost. Many of the greyhounds running at Sale or The Meadows last nigh would have been greyhounds owned in syndication- why can’t you be one of the owners next time they run around?

If you are interested in becoming involved in greyhound syndication, get in touch with me and I can point you in the right direction.
